Job Description

Are you an entrepreneur trapped in a corporate environment? Well, we have an exciting and challenging position for Trade Marketing Manager at Reliance’s head office in Edison, NJ. Reporting to the Brand Manager, you will work closely with our Sales Team to “bring PlantFusion to life ” in a national base of retail stores numbering in the thousands. The core responsibility of this role is to assist in the development and execution of channel-specific in-store marketing initiatives, oversee the development of trade materials to support those initiatives, and execute our national trade shows. Primary Responsibilities:

Sales Strategy and Execution:


  • Work with the Brand Manager to develop programs supporting key in-store sales initiatives such as target promotions, sales contests, spiff programs, trial programs and swag
  • Merchandising Support: Implementation and execution of in-store marketing to include product displays, points of sale materials and marketing collateral
  • Management and coordination of national trade shows and retail vendor shows (table top shows)
  • Lead/Support the short and long term commercialization strategy and plans for PlantFusion. Partnering closely with the Sales Team in the field and with the headquarter teams (Marketing, Supply Chain, Manufacturing and Finance) to drive the right go-to-market strategy and plans that deliver our annual plans and long term strategic plan.
  • Define clear and specific Sales Fundamentals (assortment, merchandising, pricing and shelving) strategy channel that will enable the sales teams to win at their customers.
  • Be the “trade” gate-keeper of all new innovation, ensuring that any national launch is set up for success with the trade and drives customer Innovation.
  • Develop ready-to-sell stories and materials that translate our portfolio and commercial strategies and enable the sales teams to sell effectively, with special focus on Top customers.
  • Participate as a core member of a sales & marketing business team in the development of customer strategic plans and business development activities.
  • Oversee the development of sales programs, sales tools, to include assisting in the creation, development, sourcing, and distribution of point of sale material.
  • Responsible for the strategic dissemination of marketing promotion information
  • Develop and manage the overall customer activation strategy
  • Accountable for the communication and training of the national salesforce in marketing programs and selling resources
  • Develop planograms and cross-merchandising opportunities for channel
  • Responsible for budget line items within the scope of the position
  • Conduct periodic in-field visits to gather insights

Data Management and Analysis:

  • Leverage US syndicated data, shopper data, channel/customer data and category insights to develop a 4P “Go to Market” strategy that drives sales for both our customers and company.
  • Maintain a dashboard to facilitate ongoing analysis of promotions, marketing campaigns, with summary of key learnings and recommendations to continually enhance ROI and execution
  • Manage weekly/monthly transfer of data from various sources and reporting
  • Analyze promotional activity to identify impact and recommend optimal promotional standards across product lines by channel
  • Lead the analysis and tracking of key customer KPI’s
  • In Store Product Activation (Demo):
  • Work with the Experiential Specialist to hire and train product demo staff.
  • Ensure proper set-up of new demo personnel with accounting/payroll.
  • Monthly collection of demo reports completed properly and submitted on time.
  • Ensure payroll for 150+ independent demo contractors.
  • Review all demo reports on a monthly basis and report key performance metrics to the brand team along with recommendations for program improvement.
  • Responsible for territory budget compliance of all instore demo activities
  • Drive digital content via Brand Ambassadors and Events (ex: pictures, consumer testimonials, etc.)


  • Be able to frame out a problem, determine causes, and layout steps and sequencing to move toward solutions.
  • Have the initiative to actively seek the next step in a project versus waiting to be told.
  • Be able to work cross-functionally, holding others accountable for completing tasks/projects on time while communicating proactively to prevent heroic (hurry up) conditions.
  • Communicate consistently when backed up on work and ask for help to prioritize, clarify, and update team and managers on project status
  • Identify opportunities where the organization can turn individual actions into systematic processes that enables us to build on our base of knowledge and continually improve (quality) programs
  • Absolutely critical to take "ownership" of his/her own work. Knowing what is important and pushing back on management when being pulled in too many directions or when not clear on goals and priorities.

  • Be able to turn ideas into simple and compelling written (and verbal) communications that can be used on sales materials, program outlines, and training documents.

Job Requirements

3-5 years’ experience in marketing preferably in Channel or Trade Marketing within a CPG organization

  • Business Degree in Marketing (or equivalent)
  • Experience with retail merchandising and planogram best practices
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills 
  • Exceptional organizational skills as well as the ability to multitask among a multitude of projects and responsibilities
  • Basic design and layout skills 
  • Familiarity with how to use digital/social media content and tactics to drive sales activity at the retail store level.
  • Experience with third party syndicated data like SPINS, IRI, Nielsen 
  • Ability to travel as needed, position based in Edison, NJ with sales travel across the US and for trade shows
  • You are energetic with a positive, fun-loving nature
  • A team player with ability and willingness to accept and provide feedback
